"I've got a dirty mind. I've got filthy ways" PART 1

TV viewers have this great ability to forget and overlook past indiscretions of characters thanks to writer manipulation. For instance, who remembers that Chuck Bass tried to rape Serena [or Jenny dressed as Serena] in season one of Gossip Girl? We like many others have come to LOVE Chuck and most likely had forgotten that little detail at some point or another [It was brought up after Jenny and Chuck had sex, but again, we have since forgiven him].
Tyler Lockhart was also a would be rapist in season one of The Vampire Diaries [and you could consider every time Damon has sex with someone he compelled rape, since he is technically taking away their control. But those eyes. We will forgive those eyes](Love those eyes, but mini debate he didn’t compel Andy to sleep with him, just not be afraid of him sooo rape? Maybe.) [I meant Caroline, but it’s more of the fact he’s taking away their free will]. Something else, if anyone out there still watched 90210 (I know we’re a dying species), were you all like “oh yeah” when Adrianna brought up her baby last week? Because I, Kimberly, know that was a detail I had forgotten (Deb doesn't watch it). Another goodie, Logan Echolls goes from trashing Veronica's car like legit vandalism to kissing her oh sixteen episodes later in Veronica Mars.
Indeed, TV life moves fast, plots move forward, character motivations change and characters evolve. It's the writers jobs to make sure we don't go “WTF?!” and are happy with these fast paced changes [even if it means covering up huge plot holes in the “what you missed last time on...” I’m looking at you Glee](hehe agreed!). This is definitely a good thing. Why would we watch television if we did not want to be emotionally manipulated? That is a main point of entertainment whether were talking TV, movies, books, music, etc. However, for our own moral sake, sometimes it is good to keep in mind what we are letting these writers and characters get away with.
